Peter Gerald Maat, 51, of Gibbstown, passed away on April 23, 2024. Peter was predeceased by his father Thomas E. Maat, and stepfather Gerald LaRocque. He left behind his wife Delia Maat, daughter Kyrin (Justin) Britton, mother Patricia LaRocque, sister Christine Scott (David) and Donna Maat, as well as his brother Thomas Maat. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Parker Rae and Brett Thomas Britton. Peter had many friends who meant so much to him, including lifelong friend Carl Della Sala Jr.. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins who he loved dearly.
Peter was born in Edison, later moving to Toms River, then Tuckerton and finally Gibbstown, New Jersey. He was very proud of his service in the United States Marine Corps as a machine gunner, serving time in Panama. Pete always loved to make people laugh and could spark a conversation with anyone.
In the 51 years that Pete lived, he was so many things to so many people. He was a son, a brother, a hero, a husband, a dad, a grandpa, an uncle and a friend. Peter truly had a heart of gold, always looking out for others, lending a listening ear, or his arms for a hug.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Wounded Warrior Project in Peter’s name.
Services will be private for the family. A celebration of life will be held publicly with details to follow.
