Obituary of Beatrice P. Degnan

Please share a memory of Beatrice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Beatrice P. Degnan of South Seaside Park, passed away peacefully at home on February 3, 2024. “Bea” or “Betty”, as she was known, was the youngest of eight children and raised in New York City. She adored her parents, Michael Dunne and Delia Dunne, both Irish immigrants. There was always one thing present when Bea shared a story about her parents, and that was a smile. Betty was also very proud of her five brothers, who served our country in World War II, remarkably all deployed at the same time. Beatrice married her childhood friend, Richard Degnan in 1951 (Predeceased her in 1999). The love that was present in Bea’s family carried over into the Degnan family. The Degnan family moved to South Seaside Park to their summer home in June of 1977. Richard commuted to New York City while Beatrice learned to drive, so their children could appreciate the Jersey Shore all year long. Bea’s calm and loving mannerism was exemplary for her children, grandchildren, family and friends. Veronica (Daughter=Predeceased her in 2007) & Juan (Son-in-law); Kenneth (Son), & Linda (Daughter-in-law); Robert (Son), & Mary Ellen (Daughter-in-law); Christopher (Son), & Jennifer (Daughter-in-law), all witnessed her unconditional love. Her grandchildren admired her gentle ways and artistic talents when they would visit while also enjoying a sweet snack. Beatrice had ten grandchildren: Gregory, Christine, Kevin, Kelly, Madison, Kate, Gavin, Brigid, Collin and Finn. Beatrice was also blessed with a great grandchild, Grant, who fondly shares her birthday, March 23rd. Beatrice exuded patience, calmness, warmth, faith, and kindness not only to her family but to anyone she encountered. She cared about others greatly. The conversation was rarely about her. Bea’s greeting typically was “How is everyone? “Her departure was “Give my love and regards to everyone”. Bea’s wisdom was subtle yet powerful. She gave us all so much to think about and has left us with endless lessons and special memories. We are grateful for the love she bestowed upon us. Beatrice would often say “Love is all that matters”. A celebration of life for Beatrice Degnan will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 18th at St. Junipero Serra Church, (Formerly St. Catharine’s Church) 50 E Street, Seaside Park, NJ 08752
