Obituary of James V Leta

James (Jimmy) Vincent Leta, 70, received his Angel wings on June 23,2024 after suffering a stroke.
He was born in Irvington, NJ. His family moved to Toms River when he was 10 years old. Jimmy was a graduate of Toms River High school North in 1972. After graduation Jimmy enlisted in the Marine Corp where he earned the rank of SGT. 2nd Recon BN. After the Military he continued his career as a Police Officer on the Norfolk, Virginia force. After an injury Jimmy came back to live in Toms River. He worked for the New Jersey Department of Motor Vehicles until retiring.
Jimmy was a member of the Marine Corp Detachment. Earning the rank of Commandant of thre Smith Detachment. He eventually held all positions of the Detachment and became a life long member of the Liaison.
Jimmy carried a smile brighter than the sun no matter how stormy the weather. He had charm, he had character, he had strength. He will truly be missed.
Jimmy is survived by his Daughter, Melissa Leta-Nkwodimmah and her husband Tochi and two grandsons, Jadon and Darian. He is also survived by his four siblings; Ernie Leta, Lacey, Francis Leta, Jackson MS, Nancy Leta, Hobe Sound FL and Candace Schaefer, of Holmdel. And many neices and nephews that have fond memories of their uncle.
